3 yeard old ballet music?

I need good ballet songs for little kids, like "this is my left foot", Gallop

3 yeard old ballet music?sheet music

One of the best places to get songs like "This is my Left foot" is on old teaching records put out on lables like: Hoctor, Stepping Tones, Statler, and Kimbo. These are all hard to find these days, I try to talk with older teachers who would have been teaching back in the 50's and 60's and ask if I can make copies of their old records.

As far as purchasing some, you can still get some of them on-line. Many have been made into CD's.

Can you help..going to the ballet Swan Lake..applauding?

i have always had a secret dream to see the ballet..Swan Lake..so graceful %26amp; i am mesmerized by the beauty and skill of the dance - and now..my husband has treated me to actually go to london and see it in june...at the Royal Albert Hall...i am SO excited about it.

however...i am worried - do we applaud after an act - like you do in a musical? or is the clapping at the end? i'd like to know before i go...dont want to look like a dummy!! - thank you to anyone who can advise...and please..if you dont like the ballet - no nasty comments.

plus....what do you wear? i know jeans are not ok - is a trouser suit (smart) ok?...nerves are already setting in and its 2 months away!

Can you help..going to the ballet Swan Lake..applauding?headache

You can always applaud for a solo or pas de deux, and it is fine to applaud at the end of the act (just like in musicals). Like others have said...follow the audience, they will applaud when appropriate.

Dress up, it will make you feel magical along with a magical night at the ballet. Many women will wear nice evening dresses. A smart suit will be appropriate also. Gentlemen should wear a tie, and a jacket would look very nice.

Soak up the evening and all it entails! You will feel beautiful and will enjoy a beautiful ballet!. Also, if you tend to cry at a sad story, bring a nice hanky to dry your eyes.

Can you help..going to the ballet Swan Lake..applauding?paramount theater opera theater

Just wait and see what the audience does. Follow their lead. Have fun!
clap if you want to, but no dancing in the aisles.
You can applaud after an act, or even after an especially wonderful solo. And I agree with the other poster who said follow the lead of the audience; just clap when they do. A very chic trouser suit is fine, when in doubt, wear black!
I agree with Heart about how to dress.

About the applause, Ballet is less rigid than going to a Concert where you have to wait until the end of the piece. Generally people applaud after a solo, pas de deux and even after a wonderful corps de ballet moment. Even some times they applaud before as with the fouettees (32 turn done in just one leg) of the black swan in act two.

You will love it, it is my favourite Ballet it never ever tires me!

Have fun, fun, fun and then tell us how it went! ;-)
You'll know when to applaud... it'll just feel right, plus there will be 100's of people there, so if you're not sure, just follow their lead!

As for what to wear maybe check your tickets first. If there is a Dress Code, ie Evening dress, it will be mentioned on the ticket. Dress up but wear something you will feel comfortable in, as you will be sitting for quite a while. Wear trousers or skirt and a nice top, a trouser suit may feel a bit too formal. But most of all just enjoy the experience, don't worry too much about what other people are doing or wearing.

Enjoy Swan Lake, it is a beautiful Ballet and if your husband enjoys it too, try and persuade to him to watch some modern works at the Royal Opera House as well!

Is it to late for me to take ballet?

I am 15 and I have been hoping to one day take ballet but I am not the smallest person in the world and all I ever see is pencil thin people who do ballet. Is it possible for a person who isn't skinny(or even close to it) to do ballet ?

Is it to late for me to take ballet?plays

It's never too late to take ballet, and you don't have to be stick thin to be really good. My ballet teacher started ballet when he was 18 or 19, and he's been in a lot of ballets. It's all about the passion, will, and commitment. If you really like it and work hard(and have fun!), you'll get good no matter what age you start. Taking ballet (with proper techniques) will actually help you to lengthen your muscles and help your posture鈥攏ot over night of course, so you'll have to have patience. Lots of studios have beginner teen ballet classes. You'll probably learn faster at this age, anyway. Just relax, try it, and enjoy it! If you really love ballet and have fun with it (while still working hard), you'll improve no matter what size you are.

I'm a dancer, and I've been dancing since I was 2. I didn't really start taking ballet until I was a little older. And still, I'm no stick! I have my mom's muscular thighs, big butt and flat chest! No body is perfect, and the beauty about dancing any style of dance is that no body NEEDS to be perfect!

But I also agree with what Jamie said above. My answer mostly supported the possible decision that you just want to persue ballet as a recreational activity. If you are thinking about professional ballet, really work hard at it for about three years, develop healthy eating habits. Dairy products are really good for dancers!

Don't let what anybody says discourage you though. Just really focus on your goals鈥攜ou really have the power to do what ever you want!

yes its possible

i take dance

now.

Absolutely not, in fact your feet wont be as deformed as they would growing in toe shoes. Great time to start, Good luck, you'll love it.
it's definitely never too late to start taking dance lessons. you shouldn't be intimidated--lots of people who take dance aren't stick thin. don't let your insecurities keep you from doing something you've wanted.

ballet is for all--whether you're skinny or un-skinny.
yes very much darling! i've seen big sized people in ballet and they're just as flexible, strong and graceful.

i started real late for ballet too, at around 17 and i'm very much okay. they don't have 'adult ballet beginner courses' for nothing, you know.

as long as you're passionate and dedicated about it you'll see results. all the best girl!
It isn't too late! Please just be realistic about what you want to do and what your body is capable of. Your body will adapt to it as you go. Ballet is a skill.....you have to build it!! Embrace it! Dance is a very healthy activity. It also teaches discipline.......and all while you are having fun!
May be u just think of it being to late haven't u ever seen my old boy's mum do it at chapel.

believe me it's not too late contact me and i will direct u to her place she does it even better is it ,.....no she does it best in accordance to those kid at daycare
no--go for it
Life is about daring and discovering, don't let anything stop you from fulfilling your dreams.
people sy its to late but i dont think so i think u can start at any age if ur willing to take the hard work.
Of course you can do ballet. You will have ot work hard to build up the technique that most people start learning at a young age, but if you want to learn bad enough, and are determined, you can find passion in dancing. I know from experience. I didn't start dancing ballet until i was 14, And believe me, i am not one of those pencil thin people you are speaking of, But with determination and enough drive I have taken and passed two Royal Acadamy of Dancing exams with fairly high marks. So, if you want it bad enough, it is definatly possible. good luck!!
I started ballet when I was 18 and pointe when I was 20. I definitely think you can start ballet and get good at it despite your non-pencil size. All you need is determination.

Good Luck!
You are never too old or too big for ballet. My only suggestion to you is that you decide where your ballet is going to lead you.

Do you want to do it just for fun? Do you want to seriously pursue it? If it is a serious goal for you, you might have to loose weight. I am not saying this to be mean and harsh. It can really strain your ankles and knees to focus too much weight on those joints.

Please realize that I am not saying, "Hey, you need to start throwing up and starving yourself." I had some of these issues and I have seen far too many girks go down that road. Just get in touch with what your body needs. You don't have to be rail thin, but the bigger you are, the harder it will get.

Also, you'll need at least three good years of ballet technique and training before you can begin pointe, if that's what you're interested in.
Absolutely, go for it!!! I had a dance teacher who didn't start dancing until she was 18. She was so passionate about it that she made it a career...she's amazing as well. She even did some Broadway work :) As for the weight....please don't be pencil thin! Dance should be for all body types. Besides, dance will get you into shape if you feel that you aren't. You should also try Jazz and Hip Hop, they are great fun!
its never too late to start ballet (pointe)!!!....even tho u don't have the "body of a dancer"...doesn't mean u can't do it..if its somethin u love to do, then go for it!!...ur feet will eventually form an arch, and ull be able to do ballet just as easy as every other girl!
Omg!! Absolutly not! Its never to late to take ballet! I love it!! It doesnt matter how big you are! It may seem like it but it isnt just for the skinny people it is for everyone! I really hope that you find a great teacher that will teach you all they know! Its unbelievable what you learn at dance, and the friends that you make that last a lifetime! I really love ballet and I know you will to! HAve fun with it and youll go far!!
Everyone can do ballet no matter what there size or age. All you need to do is concentrate and work hard. The only way you can not do it is if you give up. Some people think dancing is easy but it is hard too. SO just rember work hard never give up and do your best.
never is too late.....if u really like it...do it now!!!!

Blur or Green Ballet Slippers?

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me me where I can buy colored (blue or green or yellow) soft leather ballet slippers. I wear an adult size 10 c width and have been looking on the net, but have come up empty...any suggestions?

Have you tried DanceDistributors online? If you haven't definitely check them out. Otherwise, I think you'll just have to get white canvas slippers and die them. I've done it before, and it works well.

any of those should have them
Get a pink pair and use shoe dye, Dylon. To get the exact colour you want. Don't be afraid to mix two colours together to get exactly what you want.c
I saw a bunch of them at OldNavy yesterday (Black Friday)...all different colors too.
you wont be able to find them any where. you have to spray paint them, and trust me, it works. my grandma is my ballet teacher and she always has to spray paint peoples shoes. but yeah, it would be nice if they sold different color shoes.

~Kayla~
um, if ur a guy then why dont u just get regular black???
Professional ballet slippers?

Buy some with dyable satin.
Try this website called Jennetsdancewear.com
im not sure where you could find them. but you could always spray paint your regular ballet shoes.
You might have to dye them.
guys ordinarily don't wear colored slippers.

they almost always wear black....

in fact, i've never seen a guy wear anything other than black slippers.

((p.s.:he wasn't talking about the ballet flats that youu wear as street shoes. he's talking about REAL ballet shoes that youu wear for ballet classes.))
You will probably have to either dye them or spray paint them yourself.
You asked it many times and seem to be dissatified with the answers, for you're coming back with the same question.

There is no other way than dyeing canvas or satin slippers with fabric dye (Dylon, Ritz) or spray painting the leather slippers.

Can you suggest gifts for my (male) former ballet instructor?

I would have to say that I do not agree.I think if you tried to water ballet you would discover just how much physical strength and endurance is needed. As for golf, perhaps cut out the golf carts and beer breaks.
Hey,,,, lay off Big Macs,
No, golf is a very mental and physical game. It's just not as action-packed as hockey or basketball etc. It has a lot more mental aspects, like baseball. However, I honestly think Water Ballet should be in the dance category, not sports. Can't give a good reason other than it just doesn't fit sports.
Party. I agree on the water ballet thing but not on the golf one. I you try golf youll come to like or maybe love. And another thing Pro Golfer make upp 20 MILLION per year

Burnt out on Ballet..?

I'm 18 and have been dancing my entire life, but in the past 5 years I've begun to realize that having taken from a tiny private studio (the only thing available in my area) my whole life has made my technique well... remedial. I've gone away for summer intensives the last 4 summers, and am looking into college with the idea of majoring in ballet performance, but I'm beginning to wonder whether it's worth it to continue to sacrifice my precious senior year free time for a career I may have already missed the boat on.

If anyone out there has been in this situation I'd like to hear how you handled it, (ie, did you stay in it for fun, throw in the towel, stick it out, etc) and how that worked out for you.

Anything would be great!

Burnt out on Ballet..?greek theater

I promise you college will be the best thing you ever do with your life. But I always loved school in general anyway. So if you like school and you love dance then what could be better than the two of them combined?

Of course, if you plan to settle into your town where there is only one studio and don't opt to go up against that or change it then it's probably better to let your dreams go.

If you opt to major in ballet because you love it and dream for it to take you somewhere in life then what is the point of the question?

When I was a teenager I made the mistake of putting friends and tv and trivial things like dumb phone calls about boys first. Now those 'friends' are long gone, those tv shows don't matter to my present existence and I lost what was really important to me. I'd advise you not to do the same thing. I spent years dreaming of Getting It Back, when I could have kept with it in the first place. Don't waste time. Dance is a bigger ocean than that, do you really think there's only one boat?

Burnt out on Ballet..?performing arts show opera theater

Prioritize. What is most important to you? Having an active social life in your senior year, or pushing forward in ballet to excel? Even if the studio is "tiny and private," that doesn't mean that you don't have the strength and proper technique to excel in ballet!
Unless you are 300% sure that you want to have a career in dance, then don't waste your time. If you enjoy it and are serious about it, you aren't sacrificing free time. Since you look at it like that, I get the feeling you're about done. You can still keep dancing casually, but not as intense. Senior year is important, and only the dancers who really deticate everything to being a dancer make it; you would be wasting your own time and others.
if you still want to dance maybe you should consider a new style which would open your eyes to new possibilities or it may solidify your desire to stop. either way you will come out a winner. do what is best for you. do not go into a field of study that you will abandon midway through.
I have the same problem as you. I came from a small studio and i grew up a competition kid. But now I'm realizing that maybe a small studio isn't the best. And to add to the factor my parents never really supported dancing for me as a career, they thought of it as just a hobby. So when i would be dying to go to the studio 6 times a week they didn't want me to. I'm trying to face reality, but it seems to soon to just quit. Dancing will always be my passion, so i never want to quit. But i have to realize my childhood dance training could keep me from a professional career. Good luck!

Dance grades in ballet?

ive been doin ballet since 3 and am now 13 , ive gone on 2 pointe and am in inter foundation i know just about evry1z different but am i ahead or behind 13yr olds??

Dance grades in ballet?home theatre

It is not good to starte training en pointe too young, before the bones are developed. What is more important than what other dancers are doing is how well you are training, how well you study, what you know. Being a dancer doesn't exclude you from needing to know how to read, write, know history, music and foreign languages. Your line must be straight and your joints not out of alignment en pointe. Your movements must be clean and sharp. Your torso must be erect and balanced, and your axis of support directly over your contact with the floor. You must be able to land quietly on the floor without noise. You must feel your way through your up and down movements, in relation to the floor. The floor is your instrument, and you must push through it, brush across it, step onto it with a conscious sense of relationship and the sounds you are making. Your slippers must be well made, and you can reinforce the box with white shellac on the inside, and darning in overlapping V's on the toe with heavy heavy thread, so the slippers will last for months. You must read ballet history and learn about it so you know if you are getting good training or not. You must learn to read and listen to music, especially rhythm training. You have to hear and be able to know if it is a waltz, polonaise, or mazurka being played, and how to dance to it.

12-13 is the most typical age people start pointe so really you are right where you should be! i've seen younger and older people get on pointe but your right at that average age. =)

you can never be ahead in dance there is always room to develop. look up Janice bar anger books and Vito's.if you think u have passed what the school can offer move on to a pro school then u will see. not 2 b mean, but even the core DE ballet is always striving 2 get better to become a principal some day and she will say she is not yet mastered the art

Why are American men phobic of ballet?

In Europe and many Latin and Asian cultures ballet is considered to be masculine, and is equally enjoyed by men and women. Why are very young girls attracted to ballet in the USA, but is only mildly popular among young girls of other countries? What in American culture do think created this social stigma? Why is it still with us? What would make Americans change their view?

Why are American men phobic of ballet?palace theatre

I think it has to do with society. Our society dictates to us what is masculine and feminine, what's acceptable and what's not, what's fat and skinny, and on and on. For some reason the American society has dictated to us that Ballet is feminine and therefore, guys are afraid of it becuase then they will be perceived as feminine or gay just because they are in ballet.

Why are American men phobic of ballet?concert tickets opera theaterBECAUSE, ballet is full of queers, like ice capades and every other dramatic event that involves twister type dancing. Report It

It's all that mincing.
Well I'm from Canada and I was in a tap class when I was young, and I got beat up at school over it. So I punked out and quit. But I tell you, if you've ever actually tried to do what those dancers can do, you'll earn a huge respect for them. The beauty of dance like the taste of good scotch is an aquired taste for most. Most men just feel it's all pink outfits and girls pretending to be swans.
Because ballet is a scary SCARY GIRLY PANSYISH THING!!! I dont like it. Its for men who like to dance and want to be a girl
they have to protect their dignity, all they care about is having their dignity, doing ballet, their friends would make fun of them and they'd lose their dignity.
Because most people are idiots. I took a ballet course as an adult and it was heaven. It was about 15 to 1, men to women. I had a ton of dates with fit, athletic artistic women. I also got into incredible shape.

Any single guy that wants to have fun, work out and meet fascinating women that aren't drunk at some smoky bar needs to get into a class ASAP.

I only enjoyed going to the ballet when it involved a superstar though. Barishnikov or Nureyev etc.

They were just so much better than the local companies that it ruined trying to sit through the local stuff.
I can't answer for all American men, but I know it bores me greatly. I don't get the stories that the dances are trying to tell. Then again, I also hate musicals. I'm just not into performing arts like that.
Birdman and HisServ have it right. People are sheep. SHEEP I tell you. BAAAAAA
your question is needed the whole discovery of topic. may be few people can answer according to their opinion but i think u won't get the perfect one untill and unless u study the matter.. good luck i m sorry i won't comment anything on this coz i m also an american.
By the way I think Nathan C is drunk or stoned.

I agree with HisServ and also the guys who think it鈥檚 idiotic. I love ballet! Gorgeous, petite, women dancing like ethereal beings, what鈥檚 not to like? Well, I may be in a minority but I also love classical music. I wish the U.S. was not so hard on boys in ballet. I would have liked to have trained in it myself. I think it would have been a fun career, and ballet guys are fit, and I'm sure have plenty of hot dates.
Not, sadly, only American men. But as your question has centred on them I will try to stay with that.

I think it is partly because of fear, but also because of conditioning (though some of the fear is also conditioned),

partly because of inverse snobbery and finally - in a similar vein - because it is not truly "American". Heaven knows the USA has produced some outstanding workers and performers in ballet over that last 100 years but... "it just ain't American - Zeke, where's my gun?"
Stereotypes, society, images. We have high hopes for our little girls to be "princesses"-ballet lessons, piano lessons, things that "define" femininity-but we don't teach them to chew with their mouths closed or that modesty is a good thing. Sports, hunting, fishing, these are "manly" things that we want our boys to know. Truth is guys are afraid of it and put it off as one more thing they will never understand about women.
It's the men in tights. Male audience members feel that their "members" don't measure up! Oh, and those men have perfectly toned, muscular legs and butts to complement their magnificent bulges...

Ice Skating Of Course

do which one u love best
I say quit the ice skating. I love it, and it's fun, but unless you go to the Olympics, the Ice Capades is all that is ahead of you. For ballet, there are lots of dancing shows you could get into, and it could give you "experience" for other types of dancing if you decide to branch off. Ice skating will always be on the ice, which will isolate your skills too much. Anyway, you can always ice skate for fun with friends but how many friends can ballet dance with you (and be good at it!) Drop the skates, keep the toe shoes!
much prefer ice skating
Hmmm..it's hard to choose though. I LOVE both...can't help ya.
Which are you the most advanced in and can go further with in a career?I would choose the one that I know I could become a major star in.Since I do not know how well you do with either one I can't give you an answer without crushing your hopes.Tell me how well you do in both before I can give you an honest opinion.
ballet you can skate much later in life than you can jump roundlike a fairy, when you hit 50 probably will still be ice skating but I cant i mean wont imagine a 50 year in a tutu with false hips and varacous veins like the london underground map stickwith skating
I would do the Ice skating because you could dance on skates!that way you can do both!!!
Ballet will give you a grounding for all types of dancing in the future, so keep it.

You can always skate on the weekends.
Hum that's a really tough one. Personally I like ballet better, but both sports really compliment eachother. Stick with ice skating because it's like two for one?

Good Luck!

I havent taken ballet since i was 8?

and im 14 now, and want to start again. do you think i should take a few begginer ballet classes before i start pre-point, or could i just take them togather?

I havent taken ballet since i was 8?globe theater

i would definently suggest not taking pre-pointe only because you should have been dancing a few years CURRENTLY if it was like 6 years ago it doesnt count. dance for 2 years to get the strength back in your ankles and then try pre pointe.

I havent taken ballet since i was 8?oper opera theater

I would take several beginner ballet classes, if anything to refamiliarize yourself with the terms and actions and to refamiliarize your body with what is necessary to dance.
You probably should take a few beginner classes and then start pre-point. If you didn't you would probably hurt yourself in the long run. Have fun!

(Have been doing it for 8 years and loving it!)
You might want to take a dew beginner classes to "freshen up" your moves.
I started my first ballet class when I was 18 and I'm still dancing now.

I highly suggest you take at least 3 classes a week for a half-year before you start pointe. You need to regain your strength, balance and technique.

You're at a good age to start ballet again. If you work hard and really really believe in yourself you can achieve any goal.
I am a dancer of 11 years...you definitely need to get you ankles back into shape...if you don't you could ruin all of your dancing in the long run...even if taking the beginner classes is sorta embarrassing...you need to take those classes a couple of times a week before you begin pointe...but I take ballet, tap, and jazz..all of you all shouldn't limit your self to only ballet...you can get many more scholarships off of a variety of dance than if you have only one training of dance...but you could maybe check at a local dance studio and see if the teacher would mind giving you a few private lessons to get you going again...GOOD LUCK!!

Who watched the Ballet?paramount theater

The ballet thought of as being only for the aristocracy has been with us for a long time. You will find it 's strong influence in France, England and in my opinion the best, which is Russia. The dance spread widely through the Americas and has been with us every since. Who in the country hasn't see the Nut Cracker. Most of us have taken lessons in hopes of bringing grace and flow to our own movement. The Aristocracy no longer claims it for it's own as now ballet belongs to all of us.

Who watched the Ballet?theatre opera theater

i would say its the elite.

according to wikipedia, ruling courts watched ballet so i guess the wealthy would too.
Check the book - The Dancer Who Flew. It is about Nureyev and discusses the history of ballet a bit. Ballet started in France because a ruler of France was interested, but then a Frenchman moved to St. Petersburg and is largely responsible for the fantastic tradition of ballet at the Maryinsky School of Ballet and the Kirov Ballet both in St. Petersburg. Ballet is learned from a person who learned from a person who learned from .... Each dancer is very aware of with whom his/her teacher studied all the way back to the origin of ballet.

um, probably new york, cheap botiques, ebay?
I guess you don't live In Australia or NZ, but we have a store hear called eQUIP that sells designer bag, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses etc lookalikes (not copies because that's illegal), but they look really similar. Anyway I just bought last week a pair of lookalike quilted Chanel flats, that have the different coloured toe (meant to make your foot look longer and slimer) and everything. Otherwise I guess you could try Ebay, or just keep your eyes open.
well i would try chanel inspired flats. they wont have the double c logo, but you can find them like anywhere! look for flats that have the toe part maybe made of quilted patent leather and i've seen a lot of shoes with that and the other part being leopard print. but heres some classic chanel inspired flats and they're only 39 bucks!

Leg Kicking in Ballet?

In ballet, when you kick to the back, how do you kick back without twisting your hips sideways?

Also, if i can do the splits, how come i can't hold my leg up to the sky, like doing the splits just not on the ground? is it because i don't do the splits properly?

Leg Kicking in Ballet?home theater system

you've gotten great answers- definitely listen to them!!

here are two great exercises to help you achieve higher battements and extensions:

1) get down on all fours; lift one leg up so the thigh is level with your back and keep the knee bent; slightly pulse the leg upwards in 3 sets of 10; then do 3 more sets of 10 straightening the leg then bending back; next turn out the raised leg (open the knee to the side) and repeat the 3 sets of 10 pulses; don't let your raised leg ever fall below your back level; keep your back flat-don't let it sway/have a curve- hold your abs in to achieve this; take a break in between each set but only a 10 or 15 second break; you should feel the burn in your hamstring and your seat muscles

2) lie on your back and raise your legs straight up so your body and your legs make a 90 degree angle; turn your legs out and pointe your toes so your heels are touching but not your toes; slowly open your legs to the sides like a straddle while counting to 8; then close them slowly again in an 8 count; repeat this 10 times; then do 10 of them double time (take 4 counts to open and 4 counts to close); cut the time in half again (2 counts open and 2 counts close) and again until you take 1 count to open and 1 to close; keep your back flat against the floor-hold your abs in to achieve this; make sure you are TURNED OUT!; you should feel the burn in your inner thighs

do these exercises and you should see an improvement in the height of both your battements (kicks) and your extensions because you will have the strength to go with your flexibility! good luck :)

Leg Kicking in Ballet?the grand theater opera theater

ummm have your splits has nothing to do holding your leg ( developpe). that takes strength and turnout ( to utilize your inner thigh muscles) of course having your splits help how high your leg can go, like in a grand battment ( kicking your leg in the air) but holding it has to do more with strength than flexibility,
firebird addressed the leg-holding issues...

As far as kicking to the back, in order to keep your hips straight, you may need to kick a bit lower. Concentrate on keeping your hips square (facing front) at all times, and only battement (sp?) as high as you can without throwing your hips out of alignment. Eventually, as you train more, your range of motion will increase to whatever the "maximum extension" is for YOUR body, while staying in alignment.

Good luck! Keep dancin' :)

I wanna start ballet. what should i do?

okay well im 14. i took tap for 4 yrs. and then stopped 3 yrs later (today) i want to start ballet. my classes start september 5. i thought i should cut out all sweets, caffine, and junk out and start riding my bike to condition myself for the work. i hate running so thats something im not gunna do. i also want to do pointe but i think im too old. also bcuz of my age ive heard of a shoe called a demi pointe it wont support you to go on pointe but i gets you ready for pointe and i figured i start on that. will my prior dance history help me any? i love dance and i willing to give it my all. so is the diet and condition a good idea? at the moment its summer and i havent been as active as i usually am. so im worried. please answer soon. thank you.

I wanna start ballet. what should i do?sunshine

Your definately not too old to do either, adults can take classes, so you are definately not too old. Conditioning and working out are great, but if you are just taking ballet for the first time ever, don't overdo it, with Pointe, you want to have at least a good amount of practice in ballet, wait a year or two before you decide to do pointe, you may not want to, but you want to be sure your confident in ballet, and have enough experience. Other than that, go for it! I love Ballet and I've been dancing since preschool. I've yet to do pointe though. :D

I wanna start ballet. what should i do?star theater opera theater

Stretch. "Stretching," by the Andersons, $20
You can't just go on Pointe when ever you feel like it. You have to take years of normal Ballet. And when your madame thinks your ready she will tell you that you can go on pointe. But if you go on w/o any experence you'll really mess up your feet.Age 14 is not to old. I'm 15 and I'm going on Pointe in a few weeks. Just exersize and strngthen your ankles and knees. I don't know much about diets sry.
It's, I want to start ballet, not "I wanna start ballet." Learn that the ballet is culture and using terms like "wanna" is definitelly ignorant beyond belief. So is "gunna," and "bcuz." Do you pay ANY attention in school? You sound illiterate! If you are over 5' 6", you will probably be out of luck in the long run. Also, you can weigh no more than 100 pounds if you ever want to do this professionally.

Give your "all" to some grammar lessons first, then worry about ballet. And your "all" does indeed include stringet diet, exercise, running, weight training, and loads of other hard work. Got it?!
Don't diet unless you are eating a lot of sweets and junk. I would start stretching every day, strenghthen your ankles and feet as much as possible. Just start getting into a class and that will help. Stand backwars on the edge of a curb or stair (be careful not to fall off) with you heels hanging off the egde and go on your tip toes and then back down. This among other exercises will help.

Start working on the ballet positions. But most of all, stretch!!!!

http://www.pbt.org/kids/positions.html
yeah, do a lot of streching and really getting used to limberin up those leg and back muscles. if you can dp splits, work on them, wall splits, if not, do some yoga. Pilates is great, so many ballet dancers swear by it.

Can you learn ballet when you're 15?

I am not very flexible but I'd like to learn ballet, I can't find any classes near me that aren't for 3-5 year olds. I wouldn't mind joining their group if the teacher didn't mind. I'm very skinny (sporting a 24 inch waist- thats right) and I'd really like to learn but i need a location...and a teacher thats very understanding. Can anyone help me?

Can you learn ballet when you're 15?musicals

You can learn anything anytime if you put your mind to it... Good Luck ;)

Can you learn ballet when you're 15?opera songs opera theater

You can learn whenever you want, however its probably too late to be a pro at it but you can still be gracefull and amazing. just stretch everyday for flexibility and ask any of the teachers if they'd allow you into their class.
YES! I'm 22 and I didn't start dancing until I was 16. You just have to be dedicated and really WANT it becuase its going to be hard and painrful.

Good Luck Darling!
Sure you can learn, especially if you have the drive to do so!

See if a local ballet teacher would be willing to give you private lessons to help you learn quicker. You'll become flexible and pick up stuff, no problem. I don't think you'll be in pointe shoes right away, but with hard work, you'll get there.

Good luck!
so go ask the teacher if you can join or where they have the classes for your age. you can start at any age best of luck to you
usually your body is too developed to start ballet at age 15 (and I don't mean you need a tiny waist...) you need to have your feet made weird (toes bled, foot mashed to fit in toe shoes)...back arched, you have to walk like a duck (with your feet out, hazard of ballet)..you have to have LONG, LEAN lines...you have to be flexible, have all your muscles stretched out..no breasts...

So if you can find an adult ballet class, do that. I doubt that anyone will take you..you needed to start at about age 4-5..
It's never to late to begin anything!! Your still young... look into it a little more... there has to be something out there... ballet classes are everywhere! I was in dance a lot of my life.. Maybe have a parent help you look around! It's great fun! A lot of dance teacher's are very understanding... if you want to start.. you have to start somewhere! You'll eventually get flexable if you work at it... it can get hard/tough... but whatever you do.......DON'T GIVE UP! Good luck to you!!! :)
you know teachers of 3-5 year olds are more patient. and if you put your heart into learning ballet then that wouldn't be a problem.
Ballet is an excellent form of exercise and adult classes do exist. If you are thinking about becoming a professional, though, flexibility and starting young are a must (and ballet is extremely competitive). It is not too late for you to start in other forms of dance, however. Modern dance, salsa, tap, and ballroom come to mind. Find something in your area and give it a try just for fun.
Yes you can
It's never too late to learn. I'm not sure where you live, but try searching the internet for studios near you. Check their schedules and see if they would let you try a beginning ballet class. I know at my studio they let 14 and 15 year olds take class with the the 7 and 8 year olds. You probably wouldn't be in a recital dance though. In the mean time, stretch stretch stretch. Perhaps even look up the basic positions of the feet and arms online to be prepared for class. I know you can do it and I hope you stick to it ( :
Why would it matter how skinny you are?

Get over yourself, your too old for ballet.
you can learn ballet at any age. my mum did her first exams at 50...what you do with it and what career you have is a different thing..the training is excellent..you may find that you have to go to another town for lessons. look out for major ballet schools that do 'outreach' classes and ask at the local sports centre if they have a contact. Some times city ballet schools have a list of recommended teachers
Yes. What you lack in youth you will more than make up for in intellect. You may not make a professional dancer, but you can certainly learn enough to gain great enjoyment. Perhaps you should seek a larger studio with adult classes.
yess
You can start dancing a Any age you like if you are truly devoted. I admit ballet is not the easiest but it is the most beautiful in my opinion. Eventually you cold catch up with the girls your age.
Dance isn't about age... it's all about having a great time!

Sure, you can learn ballet at 15. Have you done any other type of dance before? If you have then you have already got the basics, if you haven't then this is the perfect opportunity for you to start! I'm sure that you'll love it. :)
If your feet are ok, I would imagine you could learn. Why not find the local dancing school and ask about classes, just tell them what you have asked above, and ask their advice, after all, every pupil brings in money for teaching fees and I doubt anyone would turn it down.

Yes, it is too late to be an expert ballet dancer, as you usually need to be pretty good at 16 to get a place at a ballet school here in Britain, but your intellect will mean that you could probabaly join a class only a few years younger, say 11, and be fine.

If I take pictures of a ballet-performance in the theater can I use these to paint from?

I am a fine artist, and I would like to use photographs of ballet-dansers to make paintings from. Do I get in trouble if I don't have model release forms of the actual ballet-dancer who was onstage that I am painting? A balletgroup will perform soon here in my neighbourhood.

If I take pictures of a ballet-performance in the theater can I use these to paint from?performing arts show

As long as you have permission to photograph - there's absolutely no problem using a dancer's form in your art, unless you intend to make the dancers' faces recognizable. In that case you'll need the dancers' permission to reproduce their likeness.

If I take pictures of a ballet-performance in the theater can I use these to paint from?opera cd opera theater

no, i don't think that they will care. Do what you want with the pictures.
You should probably ask permission to take any photos from the person in charge of the ballet group. If you have permission for the photos, I'm sure there would then be no problem with painting, but some places restrict photography.
well technically you're not supposed to take pictures but once you have go right ahead. be my guest.?
if you took the picture, you have the right to do whatever you want with it.

if someone else took the picture, you need to get the photographer's premission. Or the company that hired the photographer.

In both cases, it's more courteous to ask the model.
Just claim it's a "parody" and no law can touch you!
no not from what I have read...the painting world is a bit different than the photography world as far as releases go..especially if nothing you show is recognizable.

NCAA or NFL is different though...even if you do it in painting you need permission.

What all do you need for ballet?

I'm not talking about what to wear...I'm talking about strengths. I did ballet for 2 years, but that was around 4 years ago. I need to get back in shape for ballet, because I am taking it up again. I can't wait!

I have a pretty strong arch (which could be stronger), back, and feet.

Thanks a bunch.

Peace

What all do you need for ballet?concert tickets

Well, pretty much EVERYTHING needs to be strong for ballet. Calves and feet for releve, hamstrings and quads for leaps, hamstrings for developes, grande battement, small jumps, and plies, core muscles for balance, leg height, turnout, and just about every stpe in ballet, butt and inner thighs for turnout, tendues, and de gas jays (sp?), and back for arabesque. Your arms should also be decently strong but also flowy and graceful.

What all do you need for ballet?theater seating opera theater

Work on your legs, abs and arms. Your abs form your core and help you to keep control and stable during movements. Hope this helps a little! :)
Strong core muscles are essential. Taking some pilates classes would definitely be to your benefit.
HAAAMMYYSTRRINNGGYYY well to me thats my priority.

Rotation muscles quads back(which u said u had) and hamstring which is really really hard to strengthen but u need to .Ask ur physio for some excercises
Just make sure you have the basics down and you will be fine. Good turn out, good pointed feet/Relev茅, sharp d茅gag茅s, Nice high Grand Battements with straight legs, strong arms, know where your center is at all times, and good leg support from underneath the leg not on top. But just enjoy the art of Ballet and dance with your heart! :)
practice everyday and just be like dedicated and stuff
A strong core is essential for ballet (try pilates). Quads and hamstrings also need to be strong and flexible.
practice and you will build up the right muscels :)
flexiblity- be able to do a split

turnout- do the froggy stretch, rond de jambes, plies etc

strengthen muscles- grand battements and developays also ankle weights

ankle strenght- heel rises continuosly( i do 100 a day in every postion), and pointe ur feet every day and you a thera band when u pointe ur feet

hope it helps!

Am I too old to start ballet at the age of 13?

My mom said I could start taking ballet classes soon. I know what school I'm taking them from but I have no experiance at all. I want to know is am I too old. My sister sews costumes for this school %26amp; sometimes i go to watch the classes. 1 day the beginners class was going on %26amp; most of the girls were 7 %26amp; 8 but there was 1 my age %26amp; she didn't seem to enjoy it much.

also, should i get a private tutor to start out then start ballet when ireach the level where most of the girls my age are?

You are not to old. My cousin, Myra, started when she was 16 and that about 10 years ago. She is a professional dancer now. If you are too embarrassed to be in a beginners class with youngsters, you can consider a private tutor. But older students accelerate to higher levels faster if they try hard enough, so you would not be in a younger class for long. Good Luck!

Please don't let the ages of the kids in class discourage you. Follow your interests. Perhaps an adult class will help you feel better about it. I know someone who started ballroom dancing last year at the age of 50. Private tutors will be expensive.Good luck.
Of course not!
NEVER TOO LATE TO START DANCING.

If you read some of the people's profiles in America's Best Dance crew, some of them have only been dancing for about 4 years.

I hope you join ballet and enjoy it :]
Normally beginners are alot younger like 4,5,6,7,8 but you are never too old. If you just wanna do it for fun! If you wanna be serious then you are too old. There are even beginning adult classes!

Go and have fun!!

good luck!

Where can I go to learn ballet?

I'm 14, and I really want to learn how to do contemporary dancing, but first I decided that I will take ballet classes. The thing is I want to learn ballet from a good place, not the places where they have teachers teaching you how to do jumping jax or macarena I want a good dance studio, also I have a feeling I'm gonna have to pay for this all by myself so somewhere that wouldn't make me bankrupt. ONe last thing I live in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada somewhere around that region.

Go to some local dance schools and talk to the students. Ask the schools if you can take or observe one free class to see if it's what you're looking for. If you know anyone who is already in ballet, ask them for a recommendation. Find out if there are any accrediting organizations for dance schools, especially in ballet. Then, find out if the schools you look at are members of those organizations.

You should try payless again because they have some shoes that have this "W" tag on them which means wide.

First...........................look into the shoes that says your show size and then keep looking until you find those ballet flats that fit you.

Or.......you can ask a person and ask where they are! XD
Uhhm. Yea, go to payless again because they do have two-kinds of certain shoes. One for 'regular-narrow feet' %26amp; one for a 'wide foot'. Go to the payless website %26amp; you`ll know what I`m talking about. :)

Looking for cute ballet flats?

So I saw someone wearing the cutest flats the other day. They're shiny silver, with a rounded square toe that has a bit of gray suede on it. There is a little bow near the toe of the shoe that ties across the foot (the bow is only attached at its two ends - it's not actually attached to the toe of the shoe).

The closest thing I could find was this:

http://www.shopbop.com/zoe-metallic-bow-...

Cute as they are, they're not the right ones. Plus they're like $300. The ones I saw didn't look expensive and they were a brighter silver. Anybody seen the shoes I'm talking about? At Nordstrom... Urban Outfitters... AE... even Target? Anybody know where I can get a pair?

I want some!

Other alternatives would be great - as long as their not as expensive as the $300 ones!

Is there a ballet based on Beauty and the Beast?

Someone told me there was a ballet based on the Beauty and the Beast story (the original, not necessarily Disney). I was looking for it but I was not sure what it was called or if the title was even in English. Any ideas?

Is there a ballet based on Beauty and the Beast?opera cd

There are more than a dozen known ballet versions of "La Belle et la Bete" ("Beauty and the Beast") dating back to the early 1800s.

There is a recent ballet of "Beauty and the Beast" from 1997, but I'm not sure as it counts as a classical ballet because it uses music previously written by several long-dead composers (a sort of "compilation" soundtrack). Here is some info:

http://www.balletmet.org/Notes/BNB98-99....

There is some information about the other ballet versions of this classic story toward the bottom of the page.

Improving flexibility for ballet?

Improving flexibility for ballet?chicago theater

Good question

Improving flexibility for ballet?met opera opera theater

Stretch everyday

Even if it hurts

Suffer for your arts
one word: STRETCH. never be cold when you stretch. always warm up before stretching.
just stretch everyday that's all i can say
Stretching regularly like once a day or every second day will help. You should hold each stretch for at least 15 seconds because your brain will remember it and how far you have stretched, it then is tricked into believing that you can go further, therefore, each time you stretch you will become more and more flexible. If you do this i can nearly guarantee you will be much more flexible before July. Good Luck!

I took ballet because of the beauty it allowed me to feel . When I danced it was if I was in a magical place belonging to just me. And I knew one day there would be a prince come along and join me. isnt that when a fancy resturaunt parks ur car?
I enjoy ballet because it is good disepline. It helps keep my school work in order and my mind on a straight path. Ballet is like free expression of the soul and I like how you can almost do anything with the body to do ballet. It includes the entire body incorrperated in one insrtument. I like to call it a calm sport and a dancer is just like a football player only more poetic and free spirtited.
its everything that signifies Grace, Beauty and the Timeless ...

i personally hav great respect for Ballet..
hey um i took ballet for 3 years but i had to quit because of teh simple fact that the ppl i dance with were not my type so i joined an affrican dance group but i am not african well anyways i think it is very touching way of dancing
I took it for seven years and loved it. its pretty. its not easy so I feel a sense of accomplishment. I like the dancing, I like the music, and I liked the people I danced with. to me, its all about the company. the dancing is important but if you can't work with the instructor or the people find another place. though there will be times when you just need to buckle down and dance.

hope this helps! thanks for asking
First of all, I think ballet is so beautiful. Of all the other types of dance I have taken, it is my favorite. Also, it takes a lot of work and I love the gruel of training and working to become the best. It is also very fun and a great way to express yourself through dance. It is also very elegant but can also be jazzed up and experimented with.
I do not take ballet classes, but my friend comes over and teaches me Ballet, I abouslty love it. I would take classes but I am too busy being a cheerleader, and a dancer for hip hop, and a gymnast and also a model. I feel so gracefull as a ballerina, I feel so light, and so pretty while I am doing my turns. I really want to invest in a pair of ballet shoes. My dream as a little kid was to be a ballerina, but my mom crashed and burn my dreams when she said I was too fat, and by the way, I am not fat.
i take ballet because it's freally fun i get excerise and i stay in shape
i take ballet and love everything about it. i feel so graceful and free when i do it. i also feel disciplined and as if I have an advantage over everyone else. I LOVE BALLET!
i took ballet for 11 years and i loved every bit of it. the moves the grace the elagance. it was never boring for me my mom was also a ballerina. i loved goin on pointe that was hard but i enjoied it. ballet to me is a very beautiful way to express myself with either a very slow graceful dance or a faster dance with intence moves or a partner dance that romantic and passionate (i did one to time to say goodbye by sarah brightman). so yea ballet i love it.
It makes me very flexible and graceful and soft with my hands AND feet. I need it for figure skating! I made 5 friends through ballet...YA
I love ballet because I like the movement. I love the accomplishment of finishing a class and I know that each class I take is a step closer to my dream of being a great dancer.
I love ballet bacause its so relaxing and when im dancing i no longe feel like i need to care about anything. I also love it because my legs have become so much stronger and my whole body is alot more toned. I just like to dance always have and always will its just something about ballet that draws to it its just so grown up and mature.
I have been taking dance since I was 3. Tap then, jazz at 6 and ballet at 9. When I was younger I hated ballet with a passion...Now it is the opposite. I love ballet! Without that stable center (ballet) I would never have been able to accomplish all that I have in Dance so far. I am dancing and teaching . I was trained in ballet under the direction of Guiseppe Canale at www.neadancemi.com and took there for several years before I went to study in NYC and Chicago. I love ballet because it gives me discipline, strength, technique, grace, style and no matter what, there is always something left to achieve. Taking ballet allows you to jump into any dance class with confidence. And come on, how could we not like how toned it makes our bodies!!?! I now am involved with ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, character, african, and some acro and teach children from 2 1/2 to 18....I would like to one day open my own dance studio after my career is over with...until then, i'll keep dancin!!!
I took ballet for 3 years and I absolutely loved it! When I see it on tv I've gotta watch it b/c its so pretty. I miss it though. Ballet is the foundation of every type of dance out there...you really do use those positions in any other type of dance...especially Modern..I took that the fall of last year and I did see that a lot of the positions we did was just like ballet
I have taken ballet since I was 3 years old. I love ballet because it helps you with many other types of dance. It really disciplines you and I simply love the beauty of ballet. Ballet has to be my favorite type of dance by far.
I took ballet because I wanted to be as beautiful and graceful as the dancers I would see on TV (PBS). I was fascinated by what they could do with their bodies. I wanted to do that too! I loved it because it made me feel like I could do things most other people couldn't and because I thought it made me look beautiful.

I was a teenager then. I ultimately stopped because adulthood brought the realization that I was short and stalky and I looked nothing like the dancers I aspired to be. I would never look like them no matter how much I starved myself or how hard I worked at my dance. I simply did not have the body for ballet. But the years of study left me with a great appreciation for dancers and their discipline and artistry-and also a little insight to the obsessive nature of most dancers.
hair carefully pulled back, save for a few playful strands, with the metal pins hidden from sight.a sprinkle of rosebuds, a dollop of dancing magic.poised perfection in mid-air,she twirls, swirls and whirls at the command of the music.a graceful arch, a breath-stopping arabesque, interwoven with ethereal beauty.
I'm not a dancer, but my 8 year old watched the movie Center Stage and now wants to be a ballerina.

Does anyone know any GOOD dance(modern, ballet, lyrical jazz) schools in seattle, wa area ?

i took ballet before when i was really young for 4 years at a prestegious performing art school in hong kong. then when we moved to seattle my mom didn't find any dance schools for me. and yesterday i was at seattle science center, and they had these groups of kids performing there, and now i want to take dance again. im looking for a school that teaches, modern dance, ballet, and lyrical jazz. or dances of that sort.

i want a school that'd offer oppotunities to perform.

if anyone has any recommandations, i would greatly appreciate it !

Well, if you are searching for a more professional place then I would go to the Pacific Northwest Ballet which is one of the most famous in this country, but your aiming for more of a hobby than I just check local telephone book, just flip to the D scetion, and check up Dance, you'll find several maybe even a lot of dance school nearby, then I would just call or visit them, and check their websites to see what their curriculum is and what they teach. :)
What age range are you looking for? If you're at the collegiate level, definitely look into Cornish College of the Arts -- they offer a comprehensive arts program and are rumored to have an excellent dance department.

If you're not ready for college yet, they offer a rigorous "preparatory dance" program that trains the pre-professional.

Good luck! :)
right here its the dance group called the groove group we call it the groove group is because we groove and dance

Question about "The Nutcracker Ballet"?

I might be going to see "The Nutcracker Ballet" this Christmas season in Seattle. I'm just wondering how formal it is (in Seattle)?

Question about "The Nutcracker Ballet"?

I'm not an expert on Pacific Northwest Ballet (I assume that's the company you are talking about?) but I took a look at the website and it seems on par with other major companies. The general rule of thumb is dress nice, but you don't have to pull out the ball gown. I would wear a nice pair of dress pants and a nice blouse. A skirt would work too, but it's winter so... well it's up to you. You can't go wrong with black. Don't dress in something that you will be uncomfortable in or you will spend the entire show fidgeting instead of watching the ballet. Wear what you would wear to a semi-formal dinner, or Christmas dinner at Grandma's. Classy, but comfortable.

Just like movie theaters, you never know what the temperature is going to be. They might have blasted the heat due to winter, or decided to keep it comfortably cool because of all the bodies that will be packed into the theatre (plus the dancers). Be prepared for all eventualities.

Have fun!

Question about "The Nutcracker Ballet"?opera mobile opera theater

Well, Pacific northwest ballet is like the major company in Seattle. So it's pretty formal attire, I guess. No jeans, flip flops, etc.
Having been to a performance of the Pacific Northwest Ballet's Nutcracker;

First, you have have to remember, its Seattle. In Seattle, "Formal" means a clean pair of jeans. So you can dress down and no one will care. That being said, lots of proud parents and their little children will be decked out in their finest holiday attire. In some ways, it's more of a dress up occasion than the "regular" PNB performances. The spectrum of clothing options is wide open, from jeans (clean, pressed) thru business casual to truly formal gowns. My advice: dress comfortably, it's a long ballet; stick to casual but dressy and you cannot go wrong.

How much do Bolshoi Ballet dancers make?!?

Hi,

How much do ballerinas, etc in the russian Bolshoi Ballet Theatre/Academy make as a salary in US dollars per year? Does anyone have an average or even a logical guess?!

I have a huge dream to be in it, but I know I will never be that good because I am 15 and have not had much training yet!

Thanks for any answers

How much do Bolshoi Ballet dancers make?!?soap opera

. . . and you have not been educated from just about BIRTH in their own system of ballet schools. And there is NO WAY to compare whatever it is they make to the thousands of grueling hours they have put into their training.

Fifteen, as you probably already know, is getting old for a ballerina to think of a career. maybe you can major in arts management or something else in college that will keep you AROUND the ballet - but dance is one of those rare careers where you had better be scooped up into a program when VERY young, or you will not catch up. I hate to sound negative, since i have taught music since 1971, and am VERY encouraging to students - otherwise, why would be on these lists??? - but you have about as much chance of making the Bolshoi as *I* do - and I am 57.

How much do Bolshoi Ballet dancers make?!?city opera opera theater

about $600-$700 per month for principals

PBI: What does a principal dancer in the Bolshoi make?

VV: "(It varies.) Nina Ananiashvili receives much more than any other dancer. Top soloists receive some monthly salary plus fees for every performance. (Altogether), the average is about $600, $700 monthly, total."
I am sorry you got such a rude response from some posters..... Yes, you will probably not be a professional dancer, but the training and effort will make you a better person.

I don't know about the Bolshoi, but I have some friends in a MAJOR Southwestern US ballet company and some others in a Baltic country's national company. They start at about $30000/year in the US and about ~$300-600/month in Estonia. Professional ballet is a tough way to make a living. Lots of sacrifices early for a short career (usually) that doesn't pay that much. But from personal amateur experience, there is NOTHING no drug...nothing on this planet like a wildly cheering audience that is appreciative for what you just did on stage. I wish you the best in all you do in the dancing world whether it be professional or amateur.
the money that dancers get is nothing compared to their hard work and determination, and dont let anyone tell you that your not gonna make it, if its all you really want then go for it and never let go, if you believe you can then you have just as much chance as anyone else it is better to try and fail then to fail to try, no matter what age you are, yes, you are old to be trying but theres nothing wrong with that and all things are possible, alot can be accomplished in a few years time, so neva give up and dnt let anyone tell you that youre never gonna make it, and um yer they make about $700 us a month.

Sure, it's worth a shot at the very least. The older you get, especially through puberty, the flexibility you lose is pretty much gone. So keep stretching, and take some classes.

What's the worst that can happen? At least you'll be able to say you tried, and not have to live with that regret for the next 80 years or whatever.
Yes! it really depends if you want to do it, just try to get a nice teacher, someone that you know is qualified and will teach you from the beginning. Follow your dreams! I started when I was 18 and believe me it's worth it!
Yes, you can still become flexible even at your age. My tip is exercising frequently (like stretching). Then, practice ballet ever so often. Eat a healthy diet (but when your hungry don' hold out to eat something) etc. But if you believe you can dance, that is one of the best ways to be sure that you'll enjoy your ballet class. Hope this helps!
YES !! go for it. your body is still young enough that you can work the flexibility. enjoy !
Absolutely you can start ballet and any other dance you choose. I would not expect to become a professional, but you don't know that until you start and take classes for at least a year. Any dance training is good for you and will help with fitness, flexibility, posture etc. You will ultimately be limited by your talent. Good Luck and enjoy, remember that life is a journey not a destination.
Yes, go to You Tube and Watch Paloma Kerrera dance, she started late too. And she dances beautifully.
absolutely! go for it, try your best, and stretch a lot. I'm 15, 2 years older than you, I've been stretching my legs for splits a few times a week for like 4 months, and I just got my splits! And i was not very flexible when I started stretching lol but now I am very. good luck!! =)
yea, i think u should start ballet now, atleast before you become an adult. U should improve ur flexibililty while u can, cause while ur getting older, ur bones are settling into one position. So work on ur flexibility while ur younger. And yer, u can start ballet now, i no some people who started ballet at the age of 15...or even older

How much does a New York City Ballet dancer or American Ballet Theater dancer earn per year?

How much does a New York City Ballet dancer or American Ballet Theater dancer earn per year?imax theatre opera theater

i think they get a salery and the better dancer they are the more money they get paid for year because they will be in more shows.
depends if your corps or principal, and a lot of companies pay by the show. some pay a stipend in addition to a really meager salary. the money isnt usually great, dancers are definate examples of people who chose their profession because of the passion they have for it.
I do not know about those who are a permanent member of the company, but if you are a student asked to be in one of their productions you recive 10 dollars per rehearsal and 20 per show.
There is no annual pay. Many a time, a dancer doesn't stay with a company a year. It's not a full-time job. It's not uncommon for dancers to have another way of getting money on the side, like a part-time job or from their family. Actually, it is vital you do so. Dance is not going to pay the bills.

Being a professional ballet dancer is for most people not about the money because there hardly is any money. After all the years of classes intensives and any ballet related costs, it's also not uncommon to never earn that much as a dancer.

Depending on the popularity and talent of the dancer, you can get between about $500 to $1000 a week (for the average professional dancer). A principal dancer might get around $2000 a week for however many weeks they stay with the company. That is a rough estimate.

Dancing does not have a permanent pay check. New dancers come in every day and take the job. That's the harsh reality dancers may not realize until it is thrown in their face.

How to make my ballet turn-out better!?!?

I want to get a better ballet turn out, can you please give me some excercises that will help! Please check out my other questions, thanks!

How to make my ballet turn-out better!?!?opera sheet music

Since you're a dancer I'm going to assume you know that you should turn out from your hips and not from your knees :-) You should feel your turn out right through your butt.

Aside from the frog and butterfly you want to strengthen those muscles. Try this:

Lay on your side, with your hips stacked on top of each other. Try to keep your natural positioning as if you were standing (space between your waist and floor, don't sink down). Bend your knees up towards you, so that your feet are in line with your hips. This is actually a common exercise, my teacher calls in the clam stretch. You just turn your top leg out so that it opens up like a clam. Lift/turn as far as you can, really pushing with your turnout muscles, and hold it for a couple counts. Repeat this 4, 8, or 16 times depending on how much you want to do.

How to make my ballet turn-out better!?!?shows opera theater

Remember that your turn out comes from the rotation in your hips not in your feet or ankles.

Every time you do your barre exercises, you should be stretching your turnout. With every tendu, and plie' you should feel yourself turning your leg from the hip, rolling the leg outward. If you will work this during the entire barre warm-up you will definitely feel it.

You can also lay on your stomach with your hips pressing on the ground and put the soles of your feet together. We like to call this the frog stretch. As you keep you hips on the ground (don't let your rear come up in the air) let gravity pull your feet down to the floor, this is best done slowly when you have the time to lay there for a while, 5 or 10 minutes to start.
practice, practice, practice!!! I know thats probably not what u want 2 hear but it's try. improving your turnout is just like stretching, you're not going to practice one day and then the next it'll be perfect! it takes time, but the more you practice the sooner it will improve. in all of your dance classes make sure you really focus on your turn-out. even with excersises at the barre really work your turnout as hard as you can. good luck : )
try this exercise:

grab some marbles and place them on the floor. stand behind them in 1st position. grab the marbles with your toe and turn out to move the marble to the side of you. repeat this until you run out of marbles. then do it the opposite way. make sure you aren't thinking about just turning out your "feet" or "knees." the whole time think of doing it from the hips.
Well, I dunno of any real structured "exercises" that can help with turnout, but simple practice works wonders. Whever you are standing around just try to get into first or fifth position and try to widen it as much as you can. And in fifth position remember to get your heel right by your big toe joint of the other foot. Each time you practice try to get your turnout wider and eventually you will have a fabulous turnout!
Okay, so one of the exercises I have learned is to stand and put your leg up on a hip-height surface. Bend your leg at a 90 degree angle and make sure your leg goes straight from your hip and then bends at the knee. Stick your butt out, you should feel a stretch in your hips. Stay for as long as you like. This will improve flexibility in your hips, so that your turnout will get better.

Is it true that ballet is the basis of all dance?

I have been doing ballet for 6 years and i want to try lyrical or jazz next, is it too late?

Is it true that ballet is the basis of all dance?listen to opera

After you've done ballet it is SO much easier to dance other styles. I know that lyrical and jazz both are based in ballet so you should have no problem.

The biggest problem I had with going to jazz is loosening up and not keeping my back straight all the time.

Is it true that ballet is the basis of all dance?concert venue opera theater

no its never to late for dance..
nope perfect timing u have teh basis down try the next type of dancing im sure you will do great!
If you are talking about all forms of formal dance (not ballroom or hip hop), then yes, it is the basis for the other forms. It is not too late. Baryshnikov did not begin jazz or modern dance until later in his career, and then incorporated it into the repertoire at the Met.
Try. it is never too late! And balet will help you :)
You can start a new dance form at any age, it may be a bit more difficult. But really the true basis of dance is rhythm and Tribal forms of dance, the earlier the dance form the better. You just need to have a new way of looking at dance and not rely on you Ballet training
Ballet is the root of all dancing, and no it's not to late to learn more styles of dancing, I've been taking ballet for 9 years and last year I decided to learn jazz and it was surprisingly easy for me.
Ballet is the basis of all WESTERN dance styles. When I say western I don't mean like country music but the western hemisphere of the world (ie North America and Europe). And this also only applies to the classic art forms of dance, not the newer styles influenced by popular music such as street dance.

If you are serious about progressing as a dancer, ballet is an essential part of that. However, I would never say that it is too late to try something new. Go for it!
Hey, watch Fox's "So you think you can Dance?" show on television! A good dancer can dance almost any type of dance according to them. It is also never too late to learn anything if you leave your mind open.

Getting in Shape for Ballet?

Hello. I am hoping to start dance training in about 6 months. I don't want to join a company or anything but am hoping to one day perform in community dance groups and theater. I am planning on starting with Ballet and Modern dance and eventually branching into other dance forms. My main problem is that, at this very moment, I am very overweight and kind of weak. What kinds of exercises would you recommend that would help me build endurance and strength for dance and how much weight do you think I should lose before I start training? I am currently 20 years old, 5'10", and 190 Lbs. I am looking for good exercise programs and have already settled on a diet consisting of raw foods, yogurts, and other healthy items with a total calorie intake of 1500 per day. Please keep in mind that I am completely out of shape (hence the fact that I won't start dance training for at least 6-8 months). I am planning on working my way up to 5-7 classes per week over the course of several months.

cool..you'll get in shape by the time your going to start dancing.i salute you. never give in to temptation...

Getting in Shape for Ballet?mr messed up opera theater

You can build endurance and strength in the lower legs by running, this will help shape and strengthen the legs. It will also make it easier for you to perform for large amounts of time. You can also do sit ups to strengthen your core since you will need that for balance, the stronger you are in the core the better it is. I can't give you a standard weight because each dancer is different, and if your not in a company it shouldn't matter as much. If you keep to your diet, work out as much as possible you should be in shape soon; hope I helped a bit
I have been a dancer for 13 years and the BEST,BEST excersize to do is pilates. Get a DVD and do it everyday and you become stronger so quickly. I don't know where you carry your weight, but as a dancer you need strong legs so squats are always good. plus once you start modern, it is a workout, at least my class is. Running helps to but work on core regions of your body. But always get some cardio in. Eat alot of fish and always have vegies and fruit ready to snack on, instead of chips. You might want to join a jazzersize class also because it will help build up your endurance, you said you were completely out of shape, and will get you fit. Overall, be happy with who you are. You don't have to weigh 115lbs to be a good dancer. Good Luck, and if you have aymore questions, ask me.
An impossible amount of crunches. Crunches are the best thing for the core and you need a great core and center for pitouettes (turns), etc
